Observação Contemplativa de Aves

In Brazil there are more than 2,000 different species of birds, and 45% of these species are concentrated in the Atlantic Forest. Paraty stands out in this scenario, being considered a true paradise for lovers of birdwatching. Thanks to its privileged location, it is possible to observe birds at sea level at an altitude of over 1,700 m on the same day.  More than 477 species of birds were recorded, 116 of which are endemic to the Atlantic Forest . Download the complete list of birds in Paratyclicking here.

Oca Paraty is the first inn built for bird watching in Paraty. We have spacious chalets with skylights and large windows that allow bird watching during the day and night in the morning at a special time for bird watchers.

Our bilingual guides are specialized in bird watching and able to guide in different scenarios such as: terra nova mangrove, floating on the mambucaba river, gold trail at 1,500m altitude, exploration of the pereque-açu river and much more.

We invite our guests to walk along our trails and observe the different species in their natural habitat.

See below some of the species that can be observed at Oca Paraty.

Socó Boi Escuro

The first record of the bird in Paraty was made at our inn. In the entire state of RJ it has only been seen twice in Angra dos Reis since 1825. The Socó Boi Escuro  inhabits rivers and streams that are clear of forests. Fragile in the face of human presence, this species has a specific habitat, whose disturbances, even small, reduce its presence, as the available food resources decrease.

Bird difficult to see.

Tie Blood

A bird symbol of the Atlantic Forest and one of the most spectacular in the world, the blood-tiê, also known as the blood-boi, fire-tiê, chau-baêta and tapiranga, is a South American bird passeriforme_cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_of the family Thraupidae, recognized for the beauty of its red plumage.

He regularly frequents the Inn's dining rooms and fruit trees.

A bird that can be easily seen in Oca Paraty.

It feeds on fruits (especially palm hearts) and insects, as well as eggs and chicks of other birds. Enjoy the Michelia champaca (yellow magnolia).
